Privacy Policy
The short version: be.intentional works entirely on your iPhone. There's no account, no sign-up and no be.intentional server. The app doesn't collect anything from you, doesn't send anything anywhere, and has no tracking, ads or analytics. Everything you enter stays on your phone until you delete it. On the App Store, the app's privacy label is "Data Not Collected."
1. Who runs be.intentional
be.intentional (the "app") is made and operated by Charles Hills, an individual developer, not a company. In this policy, "we," "us" and "our" mean Charles Hills. For data protection laws that use the term, Charles Hills is the "controller" of the small amount of personal information described in Section 10 (support emails). We don't control any of the data inside the app, because it never leaves your phone.
This policy covers the be.intentional iPhone app, this website (beintentionalapp.com) and emails sent to our support address.
2. What the app stores on your iPhone
To work, the app saves some information only on your iPhone. Depending on what you enter, this can include:
- Your profile: your name, your wife's name, and, if you choose to add them, details such as your anniversary, her birthday, and your relationship and kids-stage choices, which help fit the prompts to your life.
- Your preferences: your reminder settings (weekly reminder day, the optional evening reminder, reminder time) and appearance setting.
- Your history: which prompts you were shown and whether you marked each one done, skipped or "Later."
- Onboarding state: whether you've finished the app's first-run setup.
The prompt library is built into the app. The app gives you one prompt a day, and you can skip it to get a different one. All of this happens on your phone.
We use this information only on your phone, to show you today's prompt, avoid repeating ones you've finished, show your history, and schedule the reminders you choose. None of it is sent to us or anyone else.
3. What we don't collect
The app makes no network calls. We don't collect, receive or store any personal data from the app. That includes:
- anything listed in Section 2
- account names or passwords (there are no accounts)
- contact details, location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone
- your messages or conversations with your wife
- device or advertising identifiers
- usage data, diagnostics or crash reports
- payment details (the app is free)
Because we don't have your data, we can't sell it, share it, or hand it over to anyone.
4. How your data is stored
- Prompt history is saved in a file in the app's private storage on your iPhone.
- Your profile, preferences and onboarding state are saved in the iOS Keychain, Apple's secure storage built into iOS.
Both are protected by iOS and are only available to the app on your device.
5. Reminders and notifications
Reminders are optional. If you turn them on, the app asks iOS for permission to show notifications. The app works fine without this permission.
All reminders are local notifications. iOS schedules them on your phone; nothing is sent from a server and no push token is created. You can have:
- a weekly reminder on a day you choose
- an optional evening reminder
- a one-time reminder at 8pm when you tap "Later" on a prompt
To turn reminders off, change your reminder settings in the app's Account screen, or go to iPhone Settings → Notifications → be.intentional and turn off Allow Notifications. Using "Delete my data" also cancels all scheduled reminders.
6. No tracking, ads, analytics or third-party SDKs
The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools, and no third-party software development kits (SDKs) that collect data. We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, and the app never asks for permission to track you.
7. Apple, the one third party
The only third party involved in using be.intentional is Apple:
- The App Store. When you download the app, Apple handles that download and may collect information about it under its own policies. We don't receive your personal information from Apple. Apple may give developers summary statistics, such as total downloads, that don't identify you.
- iOS. The app runs on Apple's operating system, which provides the Keychain, file storage and local notifications. If you've chosen in your iPhone settings to share analytics or crash data with app developers, Apple controls that sharing under its own terms.
Apple's handling of your information is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one.
8. Device backups
If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, copies of the app's data may be included in those backups, depending on your settings. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple, not by us.
9. Keeping and deleting your data
The app keeps your data on your phone until you delete it.
- Delete everything in the app: open Account → Delete my data. This erases your profile, preferences, onboarding state and prompt history from your phone, and cancels all scheduled reminders.
- Uninstalling: deleting the app removes its files, but iOS may keep Keychain items after an app is removed. To be sure everything is gone, use Delete my data before you uninstall.
We can't delete or recover your app data for you, because we never have it.
10. If you email us
If you email support@beintentionalapp.com, we receive your email address, your name if it's included, and whatever you write. We use this only to answer you and follow up on your request. We don't add you to a mailing list, sell your information, or use it for marketing.
Our support email is hosted by our email provider, Zoho Mail, which stores messages on our behalf. We keep support emails only as long as needed to help you and handle any follow-up, then delete them. You can ask us to delete your emails at any time by writing to the same address. The legal basis for this, where the law requires one, is our legitimate interest in responding to you.
Please don't send sensitive personal details by email. We don't need them to help you.
11. This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics, ads or tracking, and doesn't load fonts or scripts from other companies. It's hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, processes basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver the pages and keep the service secure. That processing is covered by Vercel's Privacy Policy. We don't use this information to identify you.
12. Children
be.intentional is written for husbands and isn't directed to children, but there's no minimum age to use it. The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. Whatever is entered in the app stays on the device, so there's nothing on our side to collect, hold or delete, and anything stored on the phone can be erased with Account → Delete my data. If a parent believes their child has emailed us, contact us and we'll delete that email.
13. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws give you rights over your personal information. Here's how they apply to be.intentional. Because the app doesn't collect personal data, most of these rights are things you can already exercise yourself, right on your phone.
Everyone
- See your data: everything the app stores is visible to you in the app.
- Correct it: edit your profile and settings in the app.
- Delete it: use Account → Delete my data.
- Support emails: you can ask us what we hold from your emails, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by writing to support@beintentionalapp.com. We'll answer within the time the law requires (usually 30 days in Europe and the UK, 45 days in US states).
European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom (GDPR and UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. For data stored in the app, you control all of this directly, since we never receive it. For support emails, contact us and we'll help. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
California (CCPA/CPRA)
In the last 12 months, we haven't collected any personal information through the app. The only personal information we may receive is what you choose to send in a support email (identifiers such as your email address and the content of your message), used only to reply to you. We do not sell or "share" personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising), and we don't use or disclose sensitive personal information. You have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, the right to opt out of sale or sharing (which doesn't apply since we don't do it), the right to limit use of sensitive personal information (also not applicable), and the right not to be treated differently for using these rights.
Other US states
Residents of states with privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and others, may have similar rights to access, correct, delete and get a copy of their personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale and profiling. We don't do targeted advertising, sell data or profile anyone. To make a request about support emails, email us. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and you can contact your state attorney general if you're unhappy with the result.
14. Security
Your app data stays on your iPhone and is protected by iOS, including the Keychain and the app's private storage. Since the app sends nothing over the internet, there's no server for anyone to break into. No storage method is perfectly secure, though, so please protect your phone with a passcode or Face ID / Touch ID and keep iOS up to date.
15. International users
You can use be.intentional wherever the App Store offers it. App data stays on your iPhone, so it isn't transferred to us or to any other country. If you email us, your message will be handled in the United States, where we're based, and by our email provider, which may store it in other countries. By emailing us, you understand your message will be processed this way.
16. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, for example if the app ever starts collecting data, we'll give notice in the app or on this site before the change takes effect.
